Storm chasing is as much about luck as it is skill. When I plan to shoot a storm I use two main tools. The weather radar and the interactive lightning strike map. These two tools allow me to be in a place where the likelihood of capturing a lightning strike is good but then it is all up to nature to do the rest.

On this day I raced out as a cell built south of the city. At first I was shooting to the south but the storm moved quickly and I relocated to try and salvage the shoot before it moved off to where I couldn’t capture it. In this location the storm stalled and built into a beautiful cell. I was in the right place as the storm unleashed upon the hills and captured these four bolts in one 5 sec frame.
