A family crest was carved into the end of his solid gold ring, it's center an empty socket missing a single large gem, lost long before his time. Blacksmith by trade, Kiem Donaish was part of a long lineage of metal workers, each generation adding to the repertoire of the next. Though few would recognize his name, within the inner circle of artisans he was known to be second to none. Kiem was of prodigal talent and had improved on the methods of his forefathers to such an extent that he no longer had room to grow, having mastered metallurgy in its entirety. This, was cause for enormous satisfaction at first, he had accomplished something his ancestors had only dreamed of. As time passed, however, his satisfaction turned to pain. Without growth, his practice felt empty, he felt stunted. Months passed and his despair deepened, he contemplated giving up his craft entirely. Fate, however, was a mysterious master and on the day he decided to close his shop a man walked in carrying a material he had never seen.
