Three hours on the top of a cliff top on the West Coast of Auckland, New Zealand

This image almost didn't happen.

On the hike up I stopped to take some shots of the setting Milky Way, set up my tripod, locked the camera in and turned around to grab my remote shutter release. Then a load thud, followed by five or six more thuds at my camera with my chunky 15-30mm lens went tumbling down the cliff side through the shrubs. I pointed my head torch down... Nothing. I wasn't going to let it defeat me so I clambered down, hanging on to whatever I could to prevent slipping down further. Searching through the dead undergrowth looking for a camera with a broken off lens. A couple of minutes later I found it, the body and front element covered in dust and dirt, but complete and unbroken.

Took my photos, continued the hike to the top and spent four hours at the top of the cliff in the middle of the night, my happy place!
