This is a 4025 x 2625 pixel image of The Great Orion Nebula, Messier 42. It was my dream for this to be my first deep-sky object that I photographed when I got my first telescope back in April 2020. This image was shot at a focal length of 420 mm at 3 hours of integration time. Because I no longer have this telescope this image is truly unique.
I absolutely love getting lost in this image, looking at all the fine wispy details within and around this nebula. I find myself searching the salmon pink parts of the nebula trying to make out any of the abstract shapes. The depth and detail I've managed to capture really makes me proud and drives me to continue to pursue this challenging, but rewarding area of photography. This image would stand out in anyone's collection.
The Great Orion Nebula is visible with the naked eye even from areas that suffer from light pollution. It can be found in the constellation of Orion just below Orion's belt, within the "sword" of Orion.
