This piece is inspired by an East Asian urban legend where one grows flowers in the lungs. The concept has been adopted in several fictions and mostly represents one-sided love.
When I think about this, I often associate it with the ‘butterflies in the stomach’. Despite a beautiful start, the feeling may become toxic and suffocating if the love isn’t returned.
Removing the flowers to save the body could be painful, but on the other side of agony and grief, there's peace.
