Humans in Solitude was first birthed when returning home to New Zealand in early 2017 after living abroad for 5 years. I was inspired by the beauty of my childhood home and had not yet had the opportunity to photograph it as I was still new to photography.
The connection between humanity and nature is something I have long been fascinated by and wanted to explore that in an artistic medium, particularly the attraction to nature and how taking a moment to breathe can have healing properties.
This body of work has been photographed over the last 4 years almost entirely on 35mm and 6x7 medium format film, a medium in itself which requires a slower pace and has helped me to connect with the subjects in each image. This is an ongoing collection of images that resonates with me deeply and I hope they will resonate with you also.
