In the 'deep-scape' series, I am very thrilled to be minting a piece that is very dear to me, as the technique and post-processing to accomplish such a shot is years in the making. The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a feature of the night sky that is very rarely photographed, and worse, overlooked, probably because of its smaller size and dimmer light. However, using a 135mm, a stacking technique and a tracker, this intimate portrait of this satellite galaxy to our own milky way reveals details and colors. The galaxy alone has definitely been shot before in better resolution, but most of the time, it is an 'all-sky picture'. This version, however, features the object above its native foreground (same gear, place, orientation and time), the arid mountains of the lower Chilean Andes. Thus, with a limited integration time, it is all about optimization, skills and technique! I love how the galaxy lights up the cacti in the foreground as well.

July 2019, Vicuña, Chile.
