A freezing day in the Olympic Peninsula. This shot was the product of feeling uninspired in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The Olympic rainforest offers some of the most accessible and unique scenery in all of North America, but that also makes it a haven for photographers like myself. I had seen all the peaks, all the lakes, and all the hikes countless times. I was determined to find a way to show the diverse beauty of the rainforest in a way I had never seen, so I decided to swim in an icy lake in the middle of winter. This photo is a way of reminding myself that no matter how many times we experience something, there's still a chance we've "only scratched the surface".
