This work tests the relationship between NFTs as an emergent institution and art history as a traditional institution. Where does one end and the other begin? Which properties of the latter will transmute to the former, and which won't? Magritte's 'The Treachery of Images' interrogated dominant regimes of representation in the early 20th century, posing the question of what an artwork can be. What can an NFT be?
