Nowadays, small town charm feels more like a mask to hide the heartache of a wounded community. My hometown, like many others, has been bleeding from an ongoing opioid crisis- one that has affected my family and the friends I grew up with. On a visit to my hometown after moving some 9 hours away down south, we were met with a staggering 10 inches of snow. We had wished for snowfall, even putting our pajamas inside-out and leaving a spoon underneath our pillows, and I was so excited to capture my neighborhood that I've known for 20+ years. As the night grew still, we went for a walk to take photos before people had the chance to trudge through the perfectly smooth snow. Most of it lay untouched until we noticed footsteps leading behind this home. It makes you wonder who had been lurking here before we passed by, and even worse, why they were lurking in the first place.
