In Northern part of Nigeria, Sarewa (flute) popularly called is a tool made from a wooden material used in sending messages to people which produces lyrical melodies. The sounds are not ordinary sounds but speech tones made by the players to the listeners. Long before the amalgamation of the country (Nigeria) in 1914, Sarewa have always been part of the culture in the Northern Nigeria amongst the Hausa tribe: Hausa is a member of Afroasiatic language family.
The flute players are known to entertain people with their craft, to maintain this cultural value, the talent of flute playing is passed from generations to generations. In this picture, these two flute players had learnt the act of flute playing from age five (5) and would also ensure to pass the talent to their offspring.
