When the day ends the city transforms itself. As the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean, the light is reflected off the water back into the atmosphere, illuminating the clouds from below. The city then adds its glow, as the giant sprawl of 500 square miles of street lamps, billboards, headlights, and skyscrapers all come to life to create the most spectacular decentralized light show on earth.
World Capital of Imaginary Places is an ongoing series that explores how the unique geographical and meteorological properties of Los Angeles have influenced the visual language of cinema, and subsequently how the city has imprinted itself into the collective subconscious of culture and the language of contemporary media.
