My mother passed away in May 2021 and I came apart. To deal with the pain, I turned to writing diaries about my honest feelings. The Grief Diaries are a collection of ‘self-portraits’ that are my response to this pain. They are everything I wanted to say but lacked the courage to.

There are so many things I wanted to say about how I’m really feeling. When people would ask me how I am, I’d just give a general, “I’m fine.” when I so badly wanted to tell them that actually, I’m not fine at all. I wanted to spare my family and close friends the pain of seeing me struggle; assuring them that I was doing okay was one less thing for them to worry about.

So yes, I am not fine but I believe that one day I will be.
