Rules. I feel trapped in a box when I follow the rules as an artist. In the few years that I have been photographing landscapes and outside scenes. I have always struggled with the notion that you can only shoot at a certain time of the day because that’s when the light is the best. It never sat right with me but as I was learning my craft I felt like I didn’t have a choice but to follow the rules. That’s what the experts were telling me. Who could I deny that they didn’t know what they were talking about. They had been shooting far longer than me.

One day I decided to ignore this particular rule. I felt I had learned enough by following them and it was time to experiment with shooting at other times of the day. This ended up being one of those shots that “broke” the rules. It was shot after golden hour, closer to the middle of the day than sunrise. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but I had to try. The end result was a turning point in my artistic journey. No longer bound rules!
