During the summer of 2020 I began a long form project to document forgotten landscapes throughout central Alabama. On uneventful weekend evenings, my mother and I would take winding backroads to have some sense of adventure and travel, even if it was just twenty miles from home. Those days are always fond to me, I can still smell the air, the kudzu, the creeks alongside the roads. As I began to travel, I started to gain those senses back, memories even, of things I saw as a kid on those little outings so long ago. On a blistering day in May of 2020, I stumbled upon one of those memories. Just up the bank of Sand Valley Creek, stood this now dilapidated boat, riding the kudzu as if it was somehow keeping it afloat. I remember seeing this, somewhat new, on one of those long drives so many years ago. After stumbling upon this, I knew I had meaning in this project, to retrace and find those forgotten memories. Taken with my trusty Mamiya RB67 on Portra 400 120 film.
