Here, life revolves around the ocean. Pulau Bungin is one of the most densely populated islands on earth, and is home to 6,000 of the world’s last remaining sea nomad group.
The island is located just off the northern shores of Sumbawa, Indonesia, and comprises of a tight cluster of stilted homes, separated by weaving and dust-covered alleyways, each of which leads to the surrounding fisheries, boathouses and ocean.
Following what seemed to be an unending series of taxis, ferries, flights and wrong turns, I arrived on location with high hopes for the final shoot of the trip. However, Sumbawa had other plans…
A fast approaching tropical storm left me with just 10 minutes to capture this image before we were forced to rush back to the car in order to make the long journey home again.
