It was my third day on my solo trip to French Polynesia. I was racing up the winding mountain roads to reach a lookout before nightfall. My eyes were wide as I rounded the turns, with each getting me closer to the elusive summit. Many miles later, I reached the top and couldn’t believe the views. I had never seen such jagged mountains hugging the beautiful coastline of the island of Mo’orea. The entire place looked like it was out of a dream.

My eyes were fixated on the peak to my west, known as Mount Tohivea. Mount Tohivea is a volcano and is the tallest peak on the island of Mo’orea. I decided to send up my drone to get a better view, and what I saw left me speechless. The sun had descended and was shrouded by the volcano. Even while hidden, the sun’s radiance was projecting magnificent rays on the shaded trees below. A moment that I will always cherish.
