About the Grief Diaries collection:

My mother passed away in May 2021 and I came apart. To deal with the pain, I turned to writing diaries about my honest feelings. The Grief Diaries are a collection of ‘self-portraits’ that are my response to this pain. They are everything I wanted to say but lacked the courage to.

About this artwork:

I am no stranger to grief: I have buried more close family members in the past 10 years than I can count. 8 years ago we lost my older brother to cancer and my family fell apart. I was still dealing with those losses when this happened, and this one feels so much worse. It feels like all I do is try to hold myself together while I continuously fall apart. It never gets easier.

On 29 July I wrote, “When your mother dies, they don’t tell you that it gets harder and harder to wake up in the mornings. You wake up to a nightmare and fall asleep to a nightmare. It’s a never-ending circle.”
