This unique artwork is an amalgamation traditional and modern, where Warli art meets the DJ Turntable.
This needed a multi-step process to produce. Warli art was hand-drawn with primary animation made frame-by-frame. Then further animated in layers to give the effect of spinning record on a turntable.
Then I composed the music based on a South Indian raag / rāgam called Hamsanadam. This is a rāgam in Carnatic music ( a form of South Indian classical music) and is a pentatonic scale.
The Warli are an indigenous tribe living in the western parts of India, predominantly in the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats, as well as coastal borders of Maharashtra - Gujarat.
Theirs is a unique art form of wall painting relying principally on basic geometric shapes: a circle, a triangle, and a square.
These shapes are symbolic of different elements of nature, where circle represents sun and moon and the triangle depicts mountains, square corresponds to human body.
