About the Grief Diaries collection:

My mother passed away in May 2021 and I came apart. To deal with the pain, I turned to writing diaries about my honest feelings. The Grief Diaries are a collection of ‘self-portraits’ that are my response to this pain. They are everything I wanted to say but lacked the courage to.

About this artwork:

As a hearing-impaired child, I struggled with communicating and expressing myself. One day when I was six years old, my mum wordlessly placed a watercolour set in front of me and I took to it like oxygen. Art became an avenue with which I could express myself and throughout my life and my mum championed my love for art. She saw me as an artist before I was and she moved mountains so I could be.

“Who am I now?” is a question I’ve been asking myself since her passing. I don’t know if I can be me without her, without being seen. In a world that consistently made me feel invisible, she shone a spotlight on me.
