By October 1998 DB was starting to become a very popular and I wanted to do something special for Halloween. Unfortunately my modeling skills were still very rough at this point and I didn't yet own an actual modeling program.
I created a few different experimental Halloween wallpapers that first year but this one, "Sleepwalker" really resonated with my fans. Perhaps it was my euphemism for the undead.
I modeled the headstones using the simple primitives built into Bryce and used Boolean geometry (a new concept to me at the time) to cut out the grave. It's also notable for being one of my first renders to feature a tree. For a number of reasons "Sleepwalker" remains unlike any other render in my large gallery.
"Sleepwalker" was so popular that it started a tradition of yearly Halloween renders that has continued to this day.
