Giovanni Agnelli jumping naked from his boat in Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat (2/4)

The "Novecento", billionaire Agnelli’s yacht, also named “The Avvocato”, was anchored in the Port of Beaulieu. I was curious to meet him during my stay on the French Riviera. I knew that every year around the 14th of July, Agnelli left his wife and children to spend unbribed holidays on his yacht, on which he invited close friends and dreamy creatures for his getaway. This photographic series made me well-known as “the King of Paparazzi”. Yet following this scoop, and even though Italians love paparazzi pictures, I didn’t see any of my work published in the Italian press. I called my Italian correspondent to ask him why he had bought me these photos for a fortune if it was not to feed tabloids. His answer was surprising: he explained to me that Agnelli owned over half of the Italian press; he had bought back the report so that none of my work could leak into the Italian media. Later, while I was observing his yacht in my respective hideout, I heard someone banging at the front door of my boat. Agnelli was casually standing there, and in good French, spoken with a delicious Italian accent, he said: "who is the artist staying on this boat?". Amused, I replied, "we’re all artists". He laughed, and we chattered for a long time as if we were old friends. After this photographic series, Agnelli and I became intimate. He invited me to spend some time in Turin, to take some pictures of his family home. When he travelled to Switzerland, he used to call me, offering me to join the trip. It is an understatement to say that this man moved me, in many possible ways. He made me laugh - thrilled me. Giovanni Agnelli made me dream.

Dans le port de Beaulieu, mouillait le yacht le "Novecento" du milliardaire Agnelli que l'on surnommait également "l'Avvocato"; je ne pouvais faire autrement que de m'intéresser à lui de plus près. Tous les ans aux alentours du 14 juillet, Agnelli quittait femme et enfants et rejoignait son yacht sur lequel il conviait quelques proches et créatures de rêves pour des vacances très débridées. Cette série de photos m'a value le titre de "Roi des paparazzi". Les italiens adorent les photos de paparazzi, pourtant suite à ce scoop, je ne voyais aucun de mes clichés sortir dans la presse italienne. J'ai donc appelé mon correspondant italien et je lui ai demandé pourquoi il m'avait acheté les photos une fortune s'il n'avait pas l'intention de les publier. Il m'a repondu qu'Agnelli était aussi le propriétaire de la plupart des magazines italiens et qu'il avait racheté le reportage pour que mes photos ne paraissent pas. Un jour, alors que je me planquais pour observer son yacht, j'ai entendu tambouriner à l'avant de mon bateau, Agnelli était là, accoudé à la barre, et dans un bon français ensoleillé de son accent italien, il m'a dit: "Qui est l'artiste sur ce bateau?"; je lui ai répondu: "On est tous des artistes". Il a ri et nous avons ensuite bavardé longuement, comme si nous étions de vieux copains. Suite à cette série de photos insolites, Agnelli et moi sommes devenus amis. Il me conviait régulièrement chez lui à Turin pour que j'immortalise ses instants familiaux. Il me téléphonait quand il se rendait en Suisse, me proposant de le rejoindre. Ce n'est rien de dire que cet homme m'a fait rêver, frémir et rire en quelques battements de vie. Il m'a surpris souvent, il m'a ému, à chaque fois.
