In German there is the saying "Eulen nach Athen tragen" (carrying owls to Athens) which is equivalent to the English "Carrying Coals To Newcastle". It was exactly this proverb that inspired me for this painting. It shows a young woman with her companions carrying two owls. In the background you can see the Acropolis, the landmark of Athens. So that my figures in the painting don't get bored, I have given them lots of details along their way.
Barbara Johanna Billeiter, also known under her artist name "Duckylemon", is a surrealist painter from Franconia in Germany.
Barbara has found her unique style of painting. She lets her own adventures and experiences flow into her work, whether they were beautiful or unpleasant. Thus, darkness and light, sweetness and bitterness unite in a game of contrasts. Barbara’s paintings show an incredible amount of detail, hidden objects, and messages. Some even classify her work as “horror vacui”, which means “dislike or fear of leaving empty space”.
For Barbara, the eyes of her characters are the most important, because they are the gateway to the soul, as they can be very expressive without having to speak a single word.
Barbara launched her genesis collection of 150 unique pieces of surrealistic art on OMMG.
