The more I shoot landscape photography, the more I realize how much beauty is lost in my wider scenes, the so called "hero shots". Focusing on the tighter elements of a landscape has led me to slow down a little bit and really soak in every detail in front of me. On this particular evening, the fog was dynamic, rising and falling between the trees. These light rays were fleeting, showing themselves for maybe 30 seconds at a time as the fog would move to the right height and then become too low or too high again. I was shooting a wider composition when I first noticed them but decided to zoom in and then further crop the final image to emphasize the simple diagonal lines the rays were cutting through the fog below me. It ended up being my favorite shot of the evening, and a reminder to look for the little things in every scene I come across.
