In Montana Shelby, the two worlds of feature film and leading tv series collide with the imaginative face off between Al Pacino’s Tony Montana from the movie Scarface and Cillian Murphy’s characterisation of Tommy Shelby from tv show Peaky Blinders.

The inventive bringing together of the two worlds set in different time periods and on separate continents, doesn’t come without some parallels, particularly in both leading protagonists. From illegal dealings, to acquiring vast amounts of wealth and power to becoming the head of their criminal organisations.

In the case of Montana’s meteoric rise, it eventually becomes fatal resulting in his death, and while we don’t yet know the fate of Tommy Shelby, in the climax of the latest season of Peaky Blinders we saw Tommy having a Tony Montana moment, standing in his driveway with a submachine gun exclaiming: “Everyone fookin’ needs me!”, echoing the line “You need people like me,” made famous by Pacino in Scarface.

Scarface features on almost all lists of greatest movies of all time, and while Peaky Blinders is still producing new seasons, this year it has become the most popular netflix show internationally.
