The base picture is taken from a pendant of laminated glass I made several years ago, named "In the Green". As quite usual, I had no clear picture in my mind of what exactly I wanted to achieve, rather a rough draft, or you could call it a glimpse of a possibility. In this case, it consisted of nothing more but two differently sized copies of the pendant, one covering the other partially, and in order to maintain the look of glass, with a certain amount of transparency. The physical piece is made of green glass, so that even the gold leaf inside it aquires a greenish tint - I put the first copy, almost unmodified from the original photo, in the first foreground layer I created. Above it, I placed a smaller copy, somehow achieving a look like it is painted with water colour, or with pastels, which gives it an appearance of silk paper rather than of glass, and provides it with a marvellously delicate and fragile feeling. The next thing I discovered was an overlay mode that created pink to violet speckles at certain points and I loved it immediately. This colour range is more or less complementary to the overall greenish hue of the physical piece, and I have to admit that in general, I am a fan of complementing things, for me it is a great way to achieve completeness. So I had this wonderful colour effect I did not want to lose, but was still not fully satisfied with the position and size of the pieces. I experimented with more "serious" and more "relaxed" setups, that is, with rather symmetrical, even rigid options, and with loose to wild ones. Some were discarded quite quickly, others I liked more, and over time, moving and resizing, I finally achieved a combination I felt happy with: a slightly displaced, smaller, clear piece over a bigger one that's quite close to the physical original; and the couple coming into the picture from a corner. For the background, I chose a dark, somewhat "noisy" plane and added an unsharp, upscaled part of the pendant to it, mixing layers in a way that left not much more than a "colour feeling", which turned out to be exactly what the picture needed. To me, the picture transmits a hint of the intensity of emerging life as it happens in spring, and also that of a light breeze, caressing the fresh and fragile leaves that come out from their buds as if they were curious to know the world around them.
