Allt Dearg Mor's waterfalls, set against the beautiful profile of Sgurr Nan Gillean, are one of my favorite locations with any weather and one I love to go back photographing over and over. I started photographing this location in 2009 and I revisited it every year for over a decade, chasing that elusive, perfect combination of weather, water level and light.

To make sure the mountain is snow covered, thus adding depth and texture to the otherwise black rocks, I always plan my visits in winter. The Isle of Skye’s winter weather is nothing short of spectacular, with its extreme variability and rapid changes. I waited over a decade to find the perfect, powerful, fiery red sunset with the right cloudy sky to juxtapose to the wintery colors of Allt Dearg Mor and Sgurr Nan Gillean.

In 2020, the conditions were just right: on a momentous February evening, "Under a Burning Sky" was finally born!
