The locked ward refers to a secured hospital unit in which patients with severe mental disorders reside. Do we really know how to treat mental health. In this painting we see patients who believe they are characters in a TV show, each one suffers from completely different afflictions such as schizophrenia, Capgras delusion, depersonalization-disorder etc.. They are over seen by a nurse who's only resources are a hammer and a clip board, and an administrator with dunning kruger syndrome. This of course is an exaggerated point, based on the history of Psychology.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists has said that it is increasingly concerned about the use of locked rehabilitation wards for people with serious mental health problems, which were stopping them getting better as quickly as possible.
