As part of my painting practice I have created a body of work that combines digital and analog systems and content. Where my paintings approach the veil between the digital and physical world these digital works have taken that last step into virtuality. They are freed from the physical confines of scale, of singular output and become objects of space and light. This particular work was created by going back and forth between the digital and physical world. I created the patterning digitally, had it silk screened onto the painting surface, painted into the silk screen, scanned the work, collaged it digitally with another painting. In this piece it is as though the excavation of a painting reveals the layers that would otherwise be hiding. In one sense coming from a common origin with the lines and patterning, yet finding its own unique space.
