Champion condemns young American-born Chinese freeskiier Eileen Gu, who chose to become part of the CCP propaganda machine by eliding questions around Peng Shuai’s safety, insisting the tennis star was "happy and healthy" after bringing sexual assault allegations against high-ranking CCP officials. Gu goes further by accepting sponsorship from Chinese athletic wear company Anta, which has come under fire for sourcing their cotton out of Xinjiang, an occupied region where evidence shows extensive use of forced slave labor in the context of the ongoing Uyghur genocide. When Gu was criticized for using Instagram, one of many apps that are blocked by the Great Firewall for billions of Chinese citizens, Gu blithely replies that "anyone can download a vpn", ignoring the fact that China has punished individual citizens who have used VPNs. —

This work is part of the Beijing 2022 Collection, the first NFT project from Chinese dissident artist Badiucao. The collection consists of a series of 10 protest pieces, created as part of a campaign to raise awareness among the global art community about the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the weaponization of global sports events by authoritarian regimes to conceal their human rights abuses. The collection was initially released at the New World Center’s Soundscape Park as part of the 2021 Oslo Freedom Forum in Miami.
