The image was inspired by the song from the Kitlinuharmiut, attributed to The Report of the Fifth Thule Expedition 1921-1924, which was loosely translated to:
"I think over again my small adventures, My fears, Those small ones that seemed so big, For all the vital things I had to get and to reach; And yet there is only one great thing, The only thing, To live to see the great day that dawns And the light that fills the world."
The Inuit song became more of a prayer the moment I read it. It resonated with me. So much so, that I've been trying to put the emotions into an image that captures the majesty of "the great day that dawns" (sunrise).
This image has won three Honorable Mentions from the International Photography Awards (IPA) 2018 for Nature/Landscapes, Fine Art/Landscape and Deeper Perspective.
