Story
I've always been attracted to streetball competitions & even though I didn't play often, I was fascinated by the atmosphere. In general, I love the vibe of sports competitions, concerts and festivals. It's important for me to see emotions & feel what's happening right here and right now. The magic fades away when being recorded, of course, but I do my best to convey the atmosphere in my photographs.
Streetball competitions were probably a part of every Day Of The City celebration in Mariupol. Respected players from other places often came here for a visit. I think streetball has a chance to revive before other sports in Mariupol, because all it needs is a piece of intact asphalt & a ring. I want to organize streetball competition when Ukraine regains control of the city and young people return there to restore the normal life they deserve.
I found an article about the opening of the basketball court in 2019 on the city's official website:
https://mariupolrada.gov.ua/en/news/bilja-mariupolskoi-shkoli-47-vidkrili-novij-sportivnij-kompleks
This place was badly damaged by the battles for Mariupol between the Ukrainian defenders and the putin's occupiers. The second version of this frame will show the difference between a peaceful life and survival after the occupation. For the sake of this I want to go to the city when the opportunity arises. And to dispel this bitter sense of loss, I will wait for the moment when we will rebuild the city and it will be beautiful again.
