I have always thought of this image as a gateway to my journey as an artist. Shot in early 2018, it marks a point in time where my career shifted dramatically from the influencer world to the art world. Up until this moment, my photography was a tool used by social media stars to make their next viral Instagram photo. But eventually I reached a breaking point, I couldn’t be that person any longer. So I chose creative freedom over social media fame. I would create for myself from then on.
A series of events followed this shoot that would set my direction forward as a concept photographer in stone. Just a few weeks after, I would shoot the first piece of my “Painted Poetry” project, a body of work that still defines my style today. And 1 year later, in early 2019, the idea of freedom and self expression that led me to create “Lost Angels” would evolve and mature into a piece titled “Rain on Rodeo”, arguably my most recognizable photograph.
I’ve come a long way in my journey as an artist and I will always remember “Lost Angels” as the moment a young, lost photographer, found his way in the City of Angels.
