On February 26 the arrival of charged particles from the sun blasted the Earths magnetosphere. The result of two flares, an M3.7 and an M6.3 which occurred two day previous from sunspot 3229. Triggering an extraordinary display of aurora seen as far south as the central United States. For those of us at the mid to high latitudes it was the best show of the past year.

Photographing the aurora has been a core ritual for me. I have turned my camera to the sky several times during rough periods in my life and it has always filled me with joy and wonder at this amazing natural event. Marvelling at the stunning physics occurring high up in the atmosphere to produce the stunning patterns and colours. It has become the most coveted type of shoot for me.
