The Body Talks. Picture yourself walking through a crowd of people with a group of friends and hearing the most outlandish bids being called out like an auction. Primitive energy coming at you like hot breath inquiries on a loop. Dysregulated emotions brewing up in your space. A reflection of disunity within your mind, body, and environment. I feel at that point you’d be wanting some fresh air. After 2020 I really missed dancing out in the city of Miami where I grew up, after being isolated for so long it felt foreign to be out. Reminiscing on my friends and I dressing up to impress ourselves to be quite honest, stepping into a party but by the time we’d arrive I am thinking “I should’ve done a few more reps at the gym” because I am now the protector of the group. The token masc femme needing to step in to interrupt that hungry energy for some peace just to dance freely and safely. Sheesh!

Fresh Air is like a nightlife manual I wrote, a mantra to repeat before heading out for the night. It is quite comical preparing for a reaction from people when they get rejected. Feels like these days physiologically people are on a clock out here ready to tie something down for the moment. Anxiety and anticipation combined is a rude cocktail before the night out. Call this song the energy protector! There are ways to respectfully approach the person you want to dance with. On the contrary - there is something mysterious about non verbal connection and there’s nothing wrong with attention. I feel the most empowered when I am dancing and in my body so there’s this push and pull you’ll here in the song even melodically. The words “Back it up” I have heard in so many songs growing up so I decided to give it multiple meanings. Back it up, meaning Back up so I can Back it up. Also, make room so my shawtys can comfortably back it up on me as well. Ha! It was a lot of fun creating this with Jesse Boykins III with us both growing up in Miami. He fully understood the assignment sonically and morally! I am here to bring awareness to our 5 foot body with audio visual experiences. I have always been intrigued by the conversation between the brain and its podium. So, whether you’re at the gym or going out whatever city you are in allow your body to speak and enjoy the moment.
