Bizarre though this Shrimp larva is, we do at least have some idea to what group of Crustacea it belongs. It is a sergestid Shrimp larva that will change both its skin and its design several times before it reaches maturity. sergestid Shrimps are mainly deep water shrimps with extraordinarily long antennae. There is a deep water fish called a snipe eel that, we believe, is especially designed to catch these sergestid Shrimps in their divergent jaws.
