The history and tradition of Patna go back to the earliest dawn of civilization. The original name of Patna was 'Patliputra'. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. It was home to many astronomers and scholars including Aryabhata, Vātsyāyana and Chanakya. Chanakya 375–283 BCE) was an ancient Indian polymath who was active as a teacher, author, strategist, philosopher, economist, jurist, and royal advisor. Acharya Chanakya had a great contribution in making Ashoka a skilled emperor. Ashoka, is today the national symbol of India. The Ashoka Chakra is a depiction of the Dharmachakra. The Lion Capital was adopted as the National Emblem of India. Ashoka also played an important role in spreading Buddhism to this world. The city 'Patna' is very rich in history which not only helped shaping India as a country but also one can see the influences all around the world.
