On September 9th 2022, I lost my father to suicide. This photo was taken months later at a beach that was the last place we all went as a family. This trip was difficult for a number of reasons, but I remember standing here in the quiet with my youngest brother, embracing the warmth of the sun and appreciating the stillness, both reflecting on all that we had experienced leading up to that moment. I thought to myself "this is what home feels like to me now" a moment of silence, a mental break from the years prior and the opportunity to just stop and reflect. I feel like we are all constantly in pursuit of finding somewhere to belong, to feel safe and this photo reminds me that even if you don't have a physical place to call "home" you can find find it wherever you are.
