Teamwork. Partnership. Collaboration.

These are modern concepts that describe working together for the benefit of those involved. Each contributing expertise for the mutual benefit of all.

But is collaboration really a modern concept? Definitely not.

Cormorant fishing is a thousand-year-old tradition in Asia, particularly in China on the Li River. Skilled and patient men capture a wild cormorant. With hard work and training, they transform it into a partner as efficient as it is elegant.

The tradition is struggling to survive in the face of ever-increasing industrial overfishing. This ancestral technique is endangered. Cormorant fishing is gradually being lost around the world. Today there are not many Chinese rivers left where you can see these birds diving into their waters to bring the fish back to their master.

Although some may think it cruel to capture a cormorant to train it to fish, it is a real relationship of trust and love that develops between the fisherman and the bird. The affectionate relationship works both ways, and the love between the two anglers is the guarantee of a good catch.

The fisherman will reward and care for his loyal companion. It is a wonderful example of symbiosis and collaboration between man and animal.

As Henry Ford famously said, "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."

CURATOR NOTE

I am fascinated by Cormorant fishing. The ability to bond so closely in a completely symbiotic relationship with another species is amazing. I cannot imagine a better representation of Together. I love the soft glow of light against man and bird and the obvious love and respect they have for each other. I envy the custodian of this photograph and the privilege of preserving it for future generations.

THE ARTIST

Eric is a French photographer and digital artist from Paris. Inspired by his hometown, the “City of Light,” he has become a “painter of light” through his photography.

Eric’s real passion is travel. It is a means of both physical and spiritual escape. When he first began photography more than ten years ago, his photos were just a way to document his life and create memories. Today, it is the quest for the perfect photo that dictates his destinations.

Eric’s favorite types of photography are landscapes and urbanscapes, both at home and abroad. On occasion, he is fortunate enough to capture a rare photo of a person. In all his photographs, whatever the genre or subject, he seeks to tell the story – of time, distance, and place.

Thanks to photography, he can give free rein to his creativity. He works to express through images what he cannot express through words. Photography crosses barriers of culture and language. Exploring the endless world of photography is his passion.

TOGETHER by Artists United curated by AlphaTrilogy collection image

More than two dozen photographers, a dozen countries, an age range of nearly 40 years (possibly more, but some won’t tell), multiple languages, and varied styles. Our team consists of members from around the world. We include photographers from Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Italy, Northern Ireland, Russia, Spain, Turkey, and the United States.

What could possibly bring this diverse group together? There’s only one thing in the world strong enough to do that: a deep love for photography.

Our collective was formed on the intentional basis of being DIFFERENT - different artists with different backgrounds, different races, languages, ability/disability, ages, and genres.

When the theme was announced there was a collective sigh, literally heard round the world. In all honesty, the theme of TOGETHER presented a challenge to nearly every single person on the team. From landscape, travel, nature, astro, portrait, fine art, urbanscape, and conceptual photographers, we’ve all literally spent the past two years ALONE.

World conditions have left everyone in isolation. The thought of “TOGETHER” was at the same time refreshing and terrifying. A few members panicked, some laughed, some left, most cringed at the thought. But in the end, the theme of TOGETHER has brought us TOGETHER.

We’ve dug through our archives, shot new images, edited like crazy, and shared critiques. Then we went back and started all over again!

This collective is the labor of our love, created with laughter, fun, and friendship. With our members spread over at least a dozen time zones, meetings were sometimes varied, crazy, and broken into smaller parts depending on the parts of the world. When you think about that accomplishment alone, accomplished with a bunch of creatives no less, you realize the depth of the loyalty to the project, to the team, and to each other.

Long late nights filled with love, laughter, jokes, craziness, and support have been the backbone of this project since the beginning.

For members of the team who are just beginning their NFT journey, it is an honor to be included with seriously talented photographers, who have been secretly discovered to be just normal people. We are all photographers but we don’t act like competitors. The community and support have been the stuff of legends. We want everyone to make it. Together as a team, we have been able to celebrate victories, face challenges, share as we have won awards, been represented by galleries, sold limited edition fine art prints, and are helping ensure everyone on our team is kicking it in the NFT world.

Through it all there is one common theme: every single member shares the same passion for photography. When asked what the best part of our team is, one member replied, “Love, kindness, love, happiness, love!”

Or, as they say in Ireland, the craic!
