An immigrant is someone who lives in a country other than his motherland. Despite becoming a citizen of that land or having served in the military, or even marrying a native citizen of that country, the immigrant will forever be an international immigrant. Any attempt to eliminate the idea of being foreign is futile. However, not all is lost.

Immigration is a form of rebirth in another country. Unlike a baby whose umbilical cord is cut immediately after birth, an immigrant is not so lucky. His umbilical cord is not of the natural kind but rather is a psychological umbilical cord created by social, cultural and traditional elements. So, it is not so easy to cut off.

That is what the umbilical cord in my work represents.The other figure is blooming.Growing in this new land. The eyes closed, the mouth shut, either by trying to fit in or the deep rooted self censorship we keep repeating even when in free countries, also are part of moving to new lands that are still not your home. It all takes time to grow again ,speak in a new language and see differently.
