This photo was taken on a day of absolute artistic clarity. A day that gave me one of the purest flow states I’ve ever experienced in my life. Scouts honor, I had just micro…ehhh…semi-macro dosed the most lovely mushrooms and smoked the sweetest most tropical sativa, grabbed my Grandfather’s trusty Olympus point and shoot and one roll of experimental film that the love of my life had given me months earlier and headed out to the sun soaked streets of Downtown Los Angeles. It was early evening and it was warm with marshmallow clouds dotting the entire sky. I was in love with every scent, every color, every sign and every shadow play on the towering buildings overhead. I was swept away by the history and the neon and the brick and the marble and the romance of it all. I was on cloud nine, seeing the world through the most beautiful eyes. Everything was perfect. Truly. Among my many adventures that fine day, was stumbling across this hidden (albeit temporarily closed) art gallery in a giant, beautiful, fantastical bookstore. This sign grabbed my attention right away. Well used. A sign of distinction. A perfect slice of the human condition in one image.
