this piece was inspired by a number of things.
first and foremost - the rolex milgauss - a watch i've been eyeing for a while. collectors may recognize the green from the glace verte, the green crystal sapphire that is so unique and difficult to make - that rolex never bothered patenting it.
i'm also fascinated with mathematics. the rolex milgauss was named after the famous mathematician carl gauss. he's also well known for the "gaussian" or "normal" distribution.
using the built-in random gaussian function in p5js, i generated a number, or distance from center, with standard deviation of 100.
i generated 360 points, by rotating 1 degree at a time around a circle (much like a clock), picking a point on that distribution, and plotting it. that is what the blue (taken from the z-blue dial of the milgauss) dots represent.
i then sorted the dots from top to bottom, and drew a line from each dot to the third next dot, with a ten percent chance of the line being orange (another nod to the rolex milgauss).
finally, i added a date to the top and refresh the image every second, much like a clock would.
enjoy your time with this piece!
