Koyasan is a small Buddhist town located high in the mountains that did not allow women to visit until recently this past century. It is not an easy place to reach, as it requires a long journey by train, cable car, and bus, but it is a place I have wanted to visit for so many years. There is a forest in Koyasan that serves as a cemetery and along to reach the gravesite, one must follow the path that is lit up by lanterns. It was beautiful as I had imagined it would be, with not a soul in sight. Just me, the trees, and the beautiful lanterns. I remember thinking how I wanted this moment to remain ingrained in my soul, it was so quiet and peaceful; it felt like a moment I never wanted to end and the scent of the earth only made it more serene. Now I can share this moment with the world, as well as its existence as many do not know about it.
