Every autumn forests in the Canadian Rocky Mountains explode with a stunning golden hue. The larch is one of the only coniferous trees that changes colour in the Fall and sheds its needles. It is a spectacle to behold. This particular September we got lucky with booking a back country campsite at Floe Lake in Kootenay National Park, as it is very hard to get a spot. It is one of my all time favourite places to visit. The way the immense rock wall, pictured here, towers above the lake below is breathtaking. The weather was not promising, a mix of rain and snow had us huddled in a tent to stay warm for the night. Even so, the morning after greeted us with a beautiful light blanket of snow across the peaks and the larch trees below. The perfect clash of winter and autumn.
