The Valle de Las Animas, also known as the Valley of the Souls, is a densely packed forest of rock formations, each stabbing toward the sky in great clusters. The stunning valley, formed over hundreds of years by mudrock and erosion, has drawn visitors for thousands of years. When people first came to this valley, they thought the spires looked like petrified souls, hence the name.
Walking around here feels like you're in another world or on the set of a science fiction film. We went to the Valley several times in various weather conditions ranging from sunny and hot to torrential rain and cold. This image was captured in between one of these moments, when the clouds began to roll in the valley, creating an incredibly moody atmosphere, a paradise for every landscape photographer.
