Ivan Reitman once said that the chemistry between Harold Ramis and Bill Murray on the set of "Stripes" was wonderful. "Harold was always incredibly forgiving of me in real life so that was the character he was playing. He was this guy who was dealing with this guy who was unpredictable."

Ivan explained a moment where Bill and Harold went to the Army recruitment office. With only a wink and a nod, both men understood that they had to abandon the script immediately and really, according to Bill, "Start messing with the recruitment officer in the hope he won't accept me into the Army."

There's a moment when Bill hands Harold the pen to sign. Reitman says, "That moment he gives Harold the pen to sign and Harold is having a hard time signing, Bill starts singing as if he's scoring, and Harold nearly breaks character… That's the moment Bill's historical friendship with Harold sneaks all the way through and you really believe these are true friends who can play with each other. People watching the movie felt the sincerity of that and fully buy into these characters."

When Bill was asked about their relationship he went silent for quite some time. Finally, Bill solemnly spoke, "I was always Brian's little brother to Harold, and that's how he treated me."
