The village of Shela is a smaller enclave within the larger island of Lamu, immediately adjacent to our lodgings at the Peponi Hotel. In contrast to Lamu town, it was much less bustling and afforded an opportunity to explore its narrow alleyways and local shops at a slower pace. Whether in Nairboi, Naivasha or Lamu, air drying of clothing seems universally preferred to machine dryers.
