Deep down we all know
none of us know what’s coming.
We pretend, yes, we pretend
we all know where we’re going.
But from our boots,
those hidden truths
reveal their inner meanings
of just how frightening it can be to know
that we cannot ever fully know
how another’s boots are fitting.

I like to think you can find life in everything.
And for me the harder riddle to decipher
is why it came to be.
But lately, I figure
as long as I’m here,
I might as well enjoy the scenery —
take in all the journey has to show,
perhaps find out some answers down below,
and all the while keep on questioning.

And how is it we’ve forgotten
we all navigate this world through a lens?
When I speak up I’m disruptive,
and when I’m silent I’m enabling a mess.
And if I’m honest,
what worries me more
than history’s dictators and corrupt presidents
is the notion that somewhere along the line,
despite our connectivity,
we’ve lost our ability
to connect.

And I finally figured out
I can’t control
what you think of me,
so I’ll stop trying —
cash out all my poker chips and go,
build myself a mountain worth climbing.

Sometimes I catch myself
trying to make predictions.
Turns out half the time I’m wrong,
but half the time I’m right, so I go with it.
‘Cause even if/when,
in the end,
the world has fallen to pieces,
well at least I’ll know I tried to grow,
see what lies beyond the open road,
and our current vision.

And I finally figured out
I can’t control
what you think of me,
so I’ll stop trying —
cash out all my poker chips and go,
build myself a mountain worth climbing.

Cash out all my poker chips and go,
build myself a mountain worth climbing,
build myself a mountain worth climbing,
build myself a mountain worth climbing.
