Stepping into one of the most incredible light shows at a place once described by British writer Rudyard Kipling as the 'eighth wonder of the world' is one of those moments that will stay with me for a lifetime.
It is during a very short period of the autumn months in Milford Sound New Zealand that Mitre Peak (Rahotu) and the sun create their own version of perfect harmony where a collision of light and granite mountain ensue.
One afternoon, without a breath of wind or a cloud in the sky, I was lucky enough to witness this moment happen - the sun, the beams, the shadows and the reflection - all aligning at the right time to create this otherworldly atmospheric scene.
I have returned many times since, never to have seen this special combination of events happen again.
