Planet-sized arcs of plasma pull away from the surface, caught in the magnetic loops spawned from volatile active regions and sunspots. This image was captured using a precisely tuned telescope designed to handle the immense heat generated when focusing the sun's rays, giving us a detailed look at the activity that occurs over our heads.
This image was shortlisted for Royal Museums Greenwich's prestigious "Astrophotographer of the Year" Award.
